19th April - Confab concludes with hope for brighter economy

The Business community meeting concluded yesterday afternoon with a glimmer of hope that both the government and private agencies would be more cooperative and tolerable to boost confidence in the nation's economy. The conference, held at the right time, stimulates participants to think, discuss, analyse and to come up with new ideas and to decide for themselves what should be done to help the ailing economy. There have been hints from the highest level of government authority that Brunei needs to be more 'business friendly'. "This is what entrepreneurs have hoped for, a more open government," said a businessman who wished to be anonymous.

Young Entrepreneurs hold luncheon talk with visiting property services expert from UK The Young Entrepreneurs Association of Brunei (Y.E.A.B.) held a luncheon talk with guest speaker Mrs Denise Gardiner, Managing Director of Property Services (Haslemere) Limited, a property letting agency in Surrey, UK yesterday. The luncheon talk was sponsored by Dato Hamdillah H A Wahab, CEO of Brunei Liquified Natural Gas (BLNG), one of the advisory committee of Y.E.A.B. and acts as a mentor and advisor to the members of Y.E.A.B. Mrs Gardiner has completed a management buyout this year after originally joining as property manager. She now owns the company. She has been involved with property throughout her working life.

Guest speaker Gardiner tells YEAB her juggling act

The Young Entrepreneurs Association of Brunei (YEAB) held a luncheon talk with guest speaker Mrs Denise Gardiner yesterday. The luncheon and invited guest speaker was sponsored by Dato Hamdillah Hj Abd Wahab, CEO of BLNG, who is one of the advisory committee of YEAB and acts as a mentor and advisor to the members of YEAB.

Mrs. Gardiner is Managing Director of Proterty Services (Haslemere) Ltd, a property letting agency in Surrey in the UK. After originally joining as property manager in 1996, she has completed a management buy-out this year, and now owns the company. She spoke of her experiences in juggling a successful career, marriage and children which the YEAB members have to deal with in this day and age. Mrs Gardiner has been involved with property throughout her working life, starting as a secretary in a solicitor's office but soon joined as estate agent in Cheshire. As a member of the advisory committee to YEAB, Dato Hamdillah also attended the luncheon to add his experiences to that of Mrs Gardiner.

Local entrepreneurs gain brilliant business ideas

Local entrepreneurs were enlightened and gained new winning strategies to make their business more successful after they listened to successful business stories by foreign entrepreneurs and prominent business figures during a Brilliant Business Ideas conference organised by Asia Inc yesterday at Sheraton Utama Hotel. Two foreign entrepreneurs who attended the conference as panelist were Singaporean Nanz Chong Komo, the founder of One.99 shop and Indonesian Hermawan Kartajaya, the founder and President of the number one consulting firm in Indonesia, MarkPlus & Co.
